| Description | IL1a and IL1b are structurally related polypeptides that share approximately 17% amino acid (aa) identity in mouse. Both proteins are produced by a wide variety of cells in response to inflammatory agents, infections, or microbial endotoxins. While IL1a and IL1b are regulated independently, they bind to the same receptor and exert identical biological effects. IL1 RII has high affinity for IL1b but functions as a decoy receptor and negative regulator of IL1b activity. The mouse IL1b cDNA encodes a 269aa precursor. A 117aa propeptide is cleaved intracellularly by the cysteine protease IL1b converting enzyme (Caspase1/ICE) to generate the active cytokine. The 17kD mature mouse IL1b shares 90% aa sequence identity with cotton rat and rat and 65%-78% identity with human. Sample Type: Serum and plasma Intended Use: The kit is a sandwich enzyme immunoassay for the in vitro quantitative measurement of IL-1 beta in mouse serum, plasma; and other biological fluids not being tested. |
