| Description | Purity ~95% (SDS-PAGE, HPLC). TIMP-1 (Tissue Inhibitor of Metalloproteinase -1), is a secreted glycoprotein and member of the protease inhibitor I35 (TIMP) family, which is expressed by a wide range of cells, including microvascular endothelial cells, smooth muscle cells, mesangial cells, and some fibroblasts. TIMP-1 acts as a natural extracellular inhibitor of MMPs (matrix metalloproteinases), a group of peptidases involved in degradation of the extracellular matrix, and is also involved in erythropoiesis, through the simulation of the proliferation/differentiation of erythroid progenitors. Studies have shown that a correlation between localized concentrations of TIMP-1 and TIMP-3, may determine cell fate, and that increased expression of TIMP-1, may act as an inhibitor/suppressor of invasive cell growth.
