| Description | Highly purified (HPLC, MS). Sequence (linear): HGAREAHSPGPL Msx2, also known as HOX-8, is a homeobox containing transcription factor which is a member of the MSH family of homeobox proteins. Homeobox genes (HOX genes), encode DNA binding proteins that recognize specific sequences and modulate transcriptional activity (1). Msx-2 is believed to play a role in regulating bone development, particularly in sutures of cranial bone (5). Msx-2 is also expressed in sites of skin appendage formation and it has been proposed that Msx-2 is involved in the growth of skin and skin appendages (6). Msx2 mRNA is found expressed at higher levels in immature tumors, including a yolk sac tumor, seminoma, and chroiocarcinoma, and also in various tumors of epithelial origin (2). Msx2 gene expression is frequently activated in carcinoma-derived cell lines.
