| Description | Purity ~95% (SDS-PAGE). Myoglobin is a single-chain heme containing protein with a molecular weight of ~17kD. It is the primary oxygen-carrying protein of muscle tissues. The same isoform is expressed in both cardiac and skeletal muscle. It is a sensitive biomarker for muscle injury and has been widely used as a marker of heart disease. Myoglobin is purified using a combination of gel-filtration and ion-exchange chromatography steps.
