| Description | Homogeneous by SDS-PAGE. This lectin has a molecular weight of 40,000-46,000 and is composed of four subunits. There appear to be two different chains in combinations giving rise to five isolectins. The isoelectric point of this lectin is pH 4.7, and it is probably devoid of carbohydrate or metal ions. The carbohydrate specificity of either type of subunit is likely to be the same, preferring alpha linked N-acetylgalactosamine structures.
