| Product Name | 3,5-Dichloro-2-hydroxybenzenesulfonic acid, sodium salt (HDCBS-Na) |
| Description | Purity ≥ 98% (TLC, (100mg in 3ml of water; 1-butanol/acetic acid/water 3:1:1; UV 254nm). Chromogenic reagent for HDL cholesterol. HDL (High Density Lipoproteins) are responsible for the reverse transport of cholesterol from peripheral cells to the liver, where cholesterol is transformed to bile acids. These are excreted into the intestine via the biliary tract. Monitoring of HDL-cholesterol in serum is of clinical importance because there is an inverse correlation between serum HDL-cholesterol concentrations and the risk of atherosclerotic disease. It is believed that elevated HDL-cholesterol concentrations offer protection against coronary heart disease, while reduced HDL-cholesterol concentrations, particularly in conjunction with elevated triglycerides, increase cardiovascular risk. The assay is performed in three discrete steps. In the first step, cholesterol esters are cleaved by the action of cholesterol esterase. In the second step, free cholesterol is oxidized by cholesterol ox |
