| Product Name | Caspase 1, Active, Recombinant, Human |
| Description | Caspase 1 (also know as ICE, Interleukin-1b-Converting Enzyme) is the prototypical member of the caspase family of cysteine proteases. Caspase 1 exists in cells as an inactive 45kD pro-enzyme. The pro-enzyme is matured by proteolysis to yield large (20kD) and small (10kD) subunits. The active enzyme is a heterotetramer consisting of two large and two small subunits. To date the mechanism of regulation of Caspase 1 activation is complex and poorly understood. In THP-1 cells, a large proportion of the Caspase 1 is present in the inactive pro-enzyme form. The active Caspase 1 preferentially cleaves Caspase 1 substrates (e.g., YVAD-AFC or YVAD-pNA). The active recombinant Caspase 1 is routinely tested for its ability to enzymatically cleave these two substrates. Active recombinant human Caspase 1, corresponding to aa120-404, N-terminal His-tag, was expressed in E. coli (NP_150634.1) Related Products: C2086-67: Caspase 1, Fluorometric Substrate, YVAD-AFC (Ac-Tyr-Val-Ala-Asp-AFC) C2086-68: C |
